Order of Christian Initiation for Adults
Adults who wish to become Christians through the sacrament of Baptism are prepared for this event through a process of study and prayer known as the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults. (OCIA)
How long does it take?
The Sacraments of Initiation are usually celebrated at the Easter Vigil and the Church requires preparation to last for at least one year. So the process take about a year from around September in one year to Easter a year (for example, September 2024 to Easter 2025).
Steps OCIA
1. Interview (consultation period): Normally interested people must meet with the parish priest where he will formulate an interview through the recognition of the faith that the person has and begins with a consultation period of some of the doubts about Catholicism. (16 weeks)
2. Acceptance to the Catechumenate: Once the interested party has already passed the consultation period, acceptance to the catechumenate formally begins, taking the first step in its preparation; those interested will now be called:
Catechumens (elected) for the unbaptized, and
Candidates for whom they have not received confirmation. (16 weeks)
3. Period of Illumination and Discernment: It is an intense period of preparation in prayer and participation in various rites, the community begins to know the candidates and catechumens, but they are not yet an integral part of the community, in this stage some rites take place such as:
to. The Rite of Inscription of the name in the book of the Elect, where they will sign with their names accompanied by their godparents.
b. The Rite of Sending; where they will be sent to meet their Diocesan Bishop.
c. The Rite of Election; where they will meet their Diocesan Bishop and meet other catechumens and candidates from other parishes carrying with them the Book of the Elect of the parish.
d. The Scrutiny’s: Some prayers and small exorcisms that will be performed on the catechumens and candidates, accompanied by their godparents.
e. The Deliveries: Deliveries of the Lord's Prayer and The Creed.
f. Confession: Catechumens and Candidates will be able to attend confession on the Tuesday before the Easter Vigil.
g. Reception of the Sacraments: Catechumens and Candidates will receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Communion
4. Mystagogy: Catechumens and Candidates are now called Neophytes. (those new to the Church)
In this period the newly baptized (neophytes) will focus on some mysteries and final points for their new challenge: to live as Catholics committed to their faith.

Los adultos que desean convertirse en Cristianos Católicos a través del sacramento del Bautismo están preparados para este evento a través de un proceso de estudio y oración conocido como el Orden de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos. (OICA)
¿Cuánto tiempo se tarda?
Los Sacramentos de Iniciación suelen celebrarse en la Vigilia Pascual y la Iglesia requiere preparación para durar al menos un año. Por lo tanto, el proceso toma alrededor de un año desde alrededor de septiembre en un año a Semana Santa por año (por ejemplo, septiembre 2024 a Semana Santa 2025).
Etapas del OICA
1. Entrevista (periodo de consulta): Normalmente las personas interesadas tienen que reunirse con el párroco donde el formulara una entrevista mediante el reconocimiento de la fe que la persona tiene y comienza con un periodo de consulta de algunas de las dudas sobre el catolicismo. (16 semanas)
2. Aceptación al Catecumenado: Una vez que el interesado ya ha superado el periodo de consulta comienza formalmente la aceptación al catecumenado, dando el primer paso en su preparación; los interesados ahora serán llamados:
Catecúmenos para los que no se han bautizado y
Candidatos para los que no han recibido la confirmación. (16 semanas)
3. Periodo de Iluminación y Discernimiento: Es un periodo intenso de preparación en la oración y participación de varios ritos, la comunidad comienza a conocer a los candidatos y catecúmenos, pero aun no forman parte integra de la comunidad, en esta etapa suceden algunos ritos como:
a. El Rito de Inscripción del nombre en el libro de los Elegidos, donde firmaran con sus nombres acompañados de sus padrinos.
b. El Rito de Envió; donde serán enviados a conocer a su Obispo Diocesano.
c. El Rito de Elección; donde conocerán a su Obispo Diocesano y conocerán a otros catecúmenos y candidatos de otras parroquias llevando consigo el Libro de los Elegidos de la parroquia.
d. Los Escrutinios: Algunas oraciones y pequeños exorcismos que se harán sobre los catecúmenos y candidatos, acompañados por sus padrinos.
e. Las Entregas: Entregas del Padre Nuestro y El Credo.
f. Confesión; Los Catecúmenos y Candidatos podrán acudir a la confesión el martes previo a la Vigilia Pascual.
g. Recepción de los Sacramentos: Los Catecúmenos y Candidatos recibirán los Sacramentos de Bautismo, Confirmación y Comunión
4. Mistagogia: Los Catecúmenos y Candidatos ahora son llamados Neófitos. (los nuevos en la Iglesia)
En este periodo los nuevos bautizados (neófitos) se enfocarán en algunos misterios y puntos finales para su nuevo reto: vivir como católicos comprometidos en su fe.
